A new avenue for local musicians to share their music with the public launches Friday evening in the city.

Alyssa Kunkel is organizing an 'Open Mic Night' to be held at 5th Avenue Cup & Saucer.

Kunkel said musicians can bring their guitars, bass guitars, keyboards etc down to the local coffee shop and "play for the people."

Kunkel said she thought the concept was something the city needed.

"I've always wanted to do one," she said, adding she is a member of YUMMY a local youth group. It was through the group she learned 5th Ave Cup & Saucer was interested in offering the shop as a venue for local musicians but needed someone else to organize it.

"We exchanged emails," said Kunkel, adding that got the ball rolling.

For this Friday, Kunkel said musicians can simply show up and ask for some time at the mic. She added in the future they may need to sign up ahead of time.

"I'm hoping this will be a monthly thing," she said.

The entertainment will be from 7-to-9 p.m. Friday, with admittance by donation, with free coffee served.
