Oversight Corrected

Yorkton Council has unanimously supported second and third readings of an amendment to the City's Zoning Bylaw to correct an oversight in terms of allowing Ready-to-Move (RTM), modular home construction within the City's commercial development zone.

Yorkton Council has unanimously supported second and third readings of an amendment to the City's Zoning Bylaw to correct an oversight in terms of allowing Ready-to-Move (RTM), modular home construction within the City's commercial development zone.

In response to developer interest the City's Department of Planning and Engineering determined its Zoning Bylaw did not allow for construction of RTM, Modular Dwellings or Manufactured homes within commercial zones.

Upon investigation City Administration had discovered at least three locations within commercial zones being used for construction/manufacturing of RTMs, with activities starting after the adoption of the current Zoning Bylaw.

The Zoning Bylaw amendment was given unanimous first reading at the Aug. 24, meeting of Council allowing Administration to proceed with the Public Notice process.

With that process complete Council passed the amendment at its regular meeting Monday.

The amendment was timely as Council also dealt with a Discretionary Use application for a dwelling Manufacturing Facility (Off-Site) at 351 and 371 Imperial Street.

"The applicant has a tentative agreement in place for lease of the subject lands. The applicant intends to construct RTM dwellings at the location and use the highway exposure to showcase completed homes. In the future, there may be a possibility of having a sales office on the site. The applicant has indicated that the lands will be re-graded and surfaced with gravel. A row of landscaping, including trees, will be required as part of the Development Permit, should Council grant approval for the proposed use," detailed a report circulated to Council Monday.

The discretionary use was also unanimously supported by Council.
