The 11th annual Easter Seals Paper Egg Campaign kicked off in Yorkton Monday.

Deana Jesmer, Community Relations Coordinator with the Yorkton branch of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council explained the program is a way to raise money for Easter Seals.

People purchase colourful paper Easter Eggs at participating businesses for one dollar. They sign the eggs and they are displayed throughout the month of April.

The money goes to fund programs such as Camp Easter Seal, the Summer Fun Program and Adaptive Technology Services.

In Yorkton the eggs are available at several locations including Peavey Mart, Booster Juice, SARCAN, and the Partners In Employment office.

Nationally in 2010, participating retailers and shoppers collectively raised $766,352 for Easter Seals, and since 2001, $6.2 million has been raised to ensure that Canadians with disabilities have the technology and experiences required to lead active and fulfilling lives.

"A small gesture really does make a big difference," said Max Beck, CEO of Easter Seals Canada in a release. "The Easter Seals Paper Egg campaign is a great way for Canadians to give a little while collectively making a big impact. We cannot thank our participating retail partners and customers enough for their continued support and generosity."

Easter Seals has been there for Canadians with disabilities for more than 85 years, providing them with the tools they need to strive for independence, acceptance and achievement. Every year, more than 100,000 Canadians and their families access Easter Seals programs and services, the most recognized being Easter Seals camps. For more information, visit www.easterseals.ca.
