Paperbag Players won several awards at Theatrefest 2024.

YORKTON - Coming off a successful showing at Theatrefest in April, Paperbag Players will be performing Agnes of God Saturday at the Sacred Heart High School theatre in Yorkton.

Director and actress in the play Pam Willerton noted the production was well-received at the provincial event held in North Battlefords with seven plays performed before an adjudicator.

Willerton said the provincial event is an opportunity for the local group to do something a bit different from their usual fare of dinner theatre comedies – Agnes of God being a drama.

In fact it is a very serious drama with nun Agnes undergoing evaluation on whether she is fit to stand trial for murdering her infant child.

When the hardware was handed out the Paperbag performance earned a technical merit award.

In addition, Bailey Lemcke took a best supporting actress award for her role as Agnes.

Willerton also took home a runner-up award in the director category.

Tickets for the performance Saturday – which includes Willerton as Mother Superior and Teresa Weber as the psychiatrist – are available online for $25 in advance, or $30 at the door.
