The contributions of Harry Bronfman to the history of Yorkton is being marked by naming a park after the man.

"The green space on the southeast corner of Broadway Street and Third Avenue, across from the Liquor Store, is located on property that was once owned by Harry Bronfman. Mr. Bronfman owned numerous buildings in this area of Yorkton during the early years of Yorkton's history," explained Darcy McLeod, Director of Community Development, Parks & Recreation.

"There is also a historical marker at this location detailing the significance of Harry Bronfman's legacy."
The Municipal Heritage Advisory Sub-Committee (MHASC), "has requested that this green space be designated Harry Bronfman Park to acknowledge the significant role that Harry Bronfman plays in Yorkton's history," said McLeod.

By City policy "the Community Development, Parks and Recreation Committee shall select and recommend to City Council for approval, the appropriate name for each park. The CDPR Committee reviewed the request form the MHASC submitted at the April 19, 2011 Committee meeting and is recommending that this green space be designated as Harry Bronfman Park.

Administration agrees with this recommendation based on the historical information that has been collected in the archives of the City," explained McLeod.

The recommendation received the unanimous support of Yorkton Council at the regular meeting of Council June 27.
