The Yorkton Planning District Commission is going through a process to revitalize its efforts.
Monday Yorkton Council heard and update on those efforts from Tim A. Cheesman Planning Consultant to Yorkton Planning District.
The Yorkton Planning District Commission is comprised of two elected officials each from the City of Yorkton and the RM's of Orkney and Wallace and Yorkton Regional Park, he explained.
The role of the Commission is to review and make recommendations to the respective Councils on land use and future growth in the Yorkton Region.
A Planning Commission can also review and develop policies on sharing infrastructure and joint service delivery and promote inter-municipal co-operation.
The report outlined, "The funding is made up of equal contributions by the RM's and the City and we received funding under the Planning for Growth Fund to prepare a District Plan."
In terms on the Commission initiative, Cheesman said several things are being undertaken including;
The Planning Team has been preparing options for growth in the region and the associated engineering infrastructure.
The Yorkton Planning District has adopted an Interim Policy to review development in the three municipalities.
We have prepared a Draft District Plan.
In addition group members have also undertaken individual efforts such as;
The City has adopted a new Official Community Plan.
The RM's are preparing a new Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaws which reflected the District Overarching Plan and each community's growth needs.
Cheesman said the Draft District Plan will be presented to the community for feedback at an open house at the Nexera Flexihall Thursday, Oct 23, from 5 to 7 p.m.
