Two men suspected of Point of Sale Terminal (POST) fraud at two Yorkton businesses have been arrested in Saskatoon.
Paul Bell, 33, and Eric Cleland, 54, both from Vancouver, British Columbia each face 71 charges including possession of forged and stolen credit cards and possession of instruments for forging credit cards, as well as, various other fraud charges.
On August 22, a Saskatoon police officer, spotted a van matching a description provided by the Brandon Police Service in July of a vehicle suspected of being connected to pin pad thefts in Manitoba. A subsequent search of the van produced what police believe to be stolen pads, forged credit cards and production equipment.
Local RCMP believe these are the same two men who entered a Yorkton business July 29 and allegedly swapped out that store's POST with one stolen from another local merchant ("Point-of-sale fraud reaches Yorkton," Yorkton This Week, August 9, 2013).
Sgt. Rob Laurent, RCMP municipal operations NCO, said Yorkton charges are included in the 142 counts before the courts.
A Saskatoon Police Service media release said investigators expect to lay further charges as they continue to work with law enforcement agencies across Canada.
On October 2, both men appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court for bail hearings. Bell was remanded in custody until October 9, Cleland until October 16.
