The RCMP is warning motorists about winter conditions following a collision January 3.
On Friday afternoon a woman in a westbound SUV on Hwy 16 collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer. Investigators believe a snowplow clearing the highway approximately eight kilometres east of Yorkton caused whiteout conditions due to snow and wind.
The lone driver of the SUV was treated by EMS for non-life-threatening injuries and transported to Yorkton hospital for further observation. The male semi driver was not injured.
Cpl. Tim Schwartz of the Yorkton rural detachment said drivers should "create a safe distance between the snowplow or when meeting a snowplow to prevent any collisions."
The Mounties also have several other tips for safe winter driving including keeping a stocked emergency kit in your vehicle with a first aid kit, flashlight, blankets and bottled water.
It is also a good idea to check conditions and road closures before venturing out on the highways.
Most important, however, is simply slowing down and leaving yourself with plenty of time to react.
The police are also reminding people to keep all the windows clear. Failing to do so is not only dangerous, but carries a $125 penalty.
A licence plate obscured by snow is also subject to ticketing.
