Police form drug trafficking working group

On February 15 at the Yorkon Rural Detachment, Yorkton GIS facilitated a meeting with several stakeholders regarding the prescription pill trafficking and addictions problem in the Yorkton/Kamsack region.

On February 15 at the Yorkon Rural Detachment, Yorkton GIS facilitated a meeting with several stakeholders regarding the prescription pill trafficking and addictions problem in the Yorkton/Kamsack region.

The meeting was to bring awareness to the problems and to set up a working group to look into possible recommendations and solutions.

The following agencies were present and participated in the discussions, which were very positive and proactive:Ministry of Health, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, Non Insured Health Benefits regional Pharmacist, Health Canada, Saskatchewan Sexual Assault Services, 601 Outreach (AIDS Saskatoon), Prescription Review college of Physicians, Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists, Government of Saskatchewan MLA for Yorkton, Addiction Services with Sunrise Health District, Mental Health with Sunrise Health District, Public Health with Sunrise Health District, Social Department with Sunrise Health District, Kamsack RCMP, Yorkton Municipal RCMP, Officer in Charge of Major Crime RCMP, Criminal Operations Branch RCMP, and Yorkton General Investigation Section RCMP.

From this meeting, a working group has been set up and prepared to meet again in early April.

On February 7, the following person attended court in Yorkton and had their charges adjourned until March 15 2011 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan:Philip Langan Jr., Kathleen (Joyce) Elder, Gurjit (Sam) Sembhi, Sidney Peepeetch, Ashley Peepeetch, Kim Andersen, Chester Acoose, Brent Woloschuk and Josh Grywacheski.

Dean Elder did not appear on February 7 due to medical reasons but has been arrested and released to appear on March 15, 2011 in Yorkton.

On February 16, the following persons attended court in Kamsack to answer to their charges and all were adjourned to March 15th 2011 in Kamsack to enter plea:Jack Shingoose, Wesley Whitehawk, Tom Quewezance, Keitha Cote, Melissa Quewezance, Edna Badger, James Ray, Tony Quewezance, Gerald Papequash (remanded in custody to appear in Yorkton on February 18th for a bail hearing), Clarence Papequash (represented by legal council).A warrant is still outstanding for Henry Ironstand, age 78, from Valley River First Nation, Manitoba.A total of 23 individuals have been charged with trafficking prescription pills and one individualcharged with trafficking cocaine during the six-month police investigation.

This matter is still under investigation by Yorkton District General Investigation Section, Kamsack Det., and Yorkton Municipal Det.

Break and Enter at Melville

The Melville/Ituna RCMP Detachment is requesting the public's assistance in locating the person(s) responsible for a break and enter into a residence.

On Sunday, February 13, 2011 at approximately 10:30 am, the Melville/Ituna RCMP responded to a break and enter on the 500 block of Montreal Street in Melville, Saskatchewan.The break-in occurred while people were sleeping in the residence.Several items were stolen from the residence including a television, laptop, and two cell phones.

Break-in at Leross

Ituna/MelvilleRCMP are seeking the person(s) responsible for the break and enter into a business in Leross. The break and enter occurred in Leross, Saskatchewan around noon on Friday February 11, 2011.

December break-ins

During the early morning hours of December 22, 2010, unknown suspect(s) broke into a business located in the Linden Square Mall in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the evening hours of December 25, 2010, unknown suspect(s) broke into a business located in the 100 block of Broadway Street East in Yorkton.
