Police remain tight-lipped about an accident this weekend on Broadway Avenue involving a pickup truck and a compact sport utility vehicle.
On Saturday afternoon, the two vehicles collided near the corner of Broadway and Melrose. The truck wound up on its side wedged between a light standard and a tree.
Both vehicles sustained serious damage and Emergency Medical Services transported one occupant of the sport utility to hospital.
Witnesses said two occupants of the truck appeared drunk. Corporal Kim Stewart, an RCMP municipal member on the scene, would not say how many people investigators believe were involved or whether they suspect drugs or alcohol were factors, but she did confirm at least one person fled the scene prompting the activation of the Yorkton detachment's Police Dog Services unit.
The dogs were unsuccessful in locating their quarry and the RCMP is not releasing any further information as the investigation continues.
"We're still waiting to speak to the driver of one of the vehicles," Stewart explained.
She called the circumstances surrounding the accident "weird."
