A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for the last week of March and first week of April 2017 in a high profile Yorkton sexual assault case.

Dr. Mohammed Haque was a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist in Yorkton until 2013 when he agreed to relinquish his licence after the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) sanctioned him for “unprofessional conduct.”

“Five of the charges alleged sexually improper behaviour with patients,” stated the CPSS summary of the case.

In February of this year, the RCMP held a press conference stating that, after a lengthy investigation in which 12 women came forward, police had traveled to London, Ontario and arrested Haque on six counts of sexual assault. All of the offences allegedly occurred between 2001 and 2008, said then-Staff Sergeant of the Yorkton detachment Greg Nichol.

In May, the Crown added 10 new charges of sexual assault. On October 20, following several court appearances in which the case was adjourned for various reasons, Haque pleaded not guilty to all charges and elected trial by Queen’s Bench judge alone. The case was again adjourned to allow Crown and Defence time to negotiate the length, dates and other details, such as number of witnesses, for a preliminary hearing.

On Oct. 28, Judge Ross Green scheduled the preliminary for March 27 to April 7.
