The medical services department of Sunrise Health Region has secured agreements with several physicians to assist in Preeceville from December 24, 2015 until mid February, 2016.
“It was challenging to secure coverage for the time that Preeceville will be without a physician,” says Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Phillip Fourie. “I am very pleased with the work of our Sunrise Health Region recruitment team and thankful for the cooperation of the Saskatchewan Medical Association locum pool and physicians in other communities in our region.”
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the following arrangements are in place at the Preeceville & District Health Centre from December 24, 2015 to February 12, 2016.
Weekday appointments are offered at the Preeceville clinic with the nurse practitioner and with a locum physician (temporary physician replacement).
Weekdays, from Monday to Thursday, the emergency department at the Preeceville & District Health Centre will be available from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The emergency department will close at 5:00 p.m., and will re-open at 8:00 a.m. of the following morning.
In weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), the emergency department will be open continuously during daytime, evening and nighttime hours and on Thursday, December 31 for New Year’s Eve.
No physician for three days, December 21, 22 and 23, 2015, during which time there will be no acute inpatient or emergency department coverage. The emergency department will be closed Monday, December 21 at 8:00 a.am. and will re-open on December 24 at 8:00 a.m.
In an emergency, dialing 911 will ensure that an ambulance quickly arrives to take the patient to the closest and most appropriate location for medical care.
Physician coverage has been arranged for hospital inpatients. Laboratory services and ambulance services continue to be available in Preeceville throughout the physician shortage.
Currently in the Saskatchewan International Physician Assessment (SIPPA), Dr. Shahrestand, is expected to arrive in the community in mid February of 2016. The region is attempting to recruit a second physician for Preeceville.
