Sexual Assault

A 61-year-old Yorkton businessman is facing charges of sexual assault involving two children under the age of 16.

Ross Yannoulis, owner of Cameo Pizza, was arrested June 17 after police received a complaint June 15 from the parents of a six-year-old girl who had allegedly been molested. The mother of the child said the girl mentioned something about it at supper one night shortly after the alleged incident had taken place.

“I was in shock,” said the mother, who cannot be named pursuant to a publication ban protecting the identity of the young victims. “My heart started beating wildly. We never ever thought this could happen to us.”

The parents immediately brought the girl to the RCMP detachment. Another alleged victim related to the family also came forward

Yannoulis was charged with two counts of sexual assault and released on undisclosed conditions.

On August 31, Yannoulis made his first appearance in Yorkton Provincial Court where Judge Patrick Koskie scheduled a preliminary inquiry for March 30, 2016.

A preliminary inquiry is generally used to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
