A race held at a picnic in Yorkton area in the 1950s. It was the custom in North American societies to hold community picnics usually on a summer Sunday afternoon. These events were usually organized by a church, or a club. People were invited to attend at a park, or a large farm yard or a lake and to bring their own lunch. Often, organizers provided desserts, pie, cake and home-made ice cream. The picnic would start off with games for children and adults. Ball games were a favorite, and other events were races, horse shoe games, etc. Some did not participate, but preferred to gather, converse and watch the games.
