The seventh annual GX94 and FOX FM Airwaves for Health Radiothon was a huge success raising $78,925. The annual 36-hour radiothon was held April 22th and 23rd, with both radio stations broadcasting live from the Regional Hospital in Yorkton.
"This year we changed the location of the radiothon to the regional hospital," said Angie Norton, General Manager of Harvard Broadcasting in Yorkton. "Holding the radiothon in the hospital was great as we were able to get more doctors, nurses and other medical staff to come on the radio and talk about their work and how a new hospital would benefit their patients," she continued.
The radiothon featured interviews with doctors, nurses and senior administrative staff of Sunrise Health Region explaining the benefits of a new regional hospital. In addition, there were a large number of business people who made contributions of $1,000 or more who participated in interviews and on air discussions explaining why they thought a new hospital was necessary.
"This event has become very important to The Health Foundation" said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation. "Not only does the radiothon raise a significant amount of money, it also reaches a huge amount of people creating tremendous public awareness regarding the work of The Health Foundation."
"Aside from the fundraising side of the radiothon we find that the public wants the information from the interviews with doctors and nurses. I want to express our appreciation to Angie and the staff at GX94 and FOX FM for hosting the Airwaves for Health Radiothon and for the tremendous job they do," continued Mr. Fisher.
