Acadia Construction has been awarded the tender to extend infrastructure on Rae Avenue.
The company tender was unanimously approved at the regular meeting of Council Monday.
"City Council approved the extension of the Rae Avenue infrastructure to service group homes in the Harris sub-division. The approved budget is $470,000. The tender for the construction of this project closed June 12," explained City Engineer Josh Mickleborough at the meeting.
The current project scope consists of extending the road way (Rae Avenue) and water and sewer mains approximately 110 m to the east.
While four companies received plans for the work, only Acadia Construction submitted a tender at a cost of $162,940.
"While one bid is not ideal, experience has shown that in a busy economy the number of bids decline," said Mickleborough.
The tender is well under the budget because the scope of the work has changed, added Mickleborough.
In addition Mickleborough said Administration will present a plan for some additional work along Rae Avenue.
"The Harris subdivision is a country residential neighbourhood, One feature being open ditch storm drainage. The extension of Rae Avenue is consistent with this and the project includes additional ditching and improvements to ditches to allow for adequate drainage. As the subdivision has aged, several drainage issues have developed, particularly along Harris Avenue, the main drainage ditch," detailed a report circulated to Council.
"As an extension of the current work, it is recommended that the ditch along Harris Avenue be re-graded and improved to allow proper drainage. It is an excellent opportunity when an infrastructure expansion project takes into account its impact and can improve the existing infrastructure and situation. Administration will bring forward a plan to address the drainage along Harris with a budget in the next two months."
