A four-day police manhunt came to an end August 12 with the capture of Joseph Desjarlais.
RCMP issued a nationwide warrant for the 23-year-old Fishing Lake First Nation man August 8 on three charges of break and enter, three charges of wearing a disguise while committing an offence and one charge each of possession of a stolen vehicle and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
At that time, a press release seeking the public's help in locating Desjarlais described him as "armed and dangerous."
On August 12, police had information Desjarlais was in a residence at Fishing Lake. The suspect fled leading members from the Wadena detachment, the Yorkton Provincial General Investigations Section (GIS) and the Swift Current Police Dog Section on a chase through the village and into the brush, explained Sgt. James Morton of the GIS.
Eventually, the officers were able to take Desjarlais into custody without incident.
He was remanded in custody on all the charges, which were related to break and enters at the Co-op in Rama, the General Store in Sheho and the Wandering Moose in Invermay.
Morton said RCMP are still looking at him as a suspect in several other crimes in the area and hope to be able to press more charges by the time he makes his next court appearance at Wadena provincial court on September 4.
