Reading program finishes

Saltcoats Anglican church welcomed Susan Smandych to a gathering on Tuesday, August 17 at 7:30 p.m. All those present were most appreciative of the great presentation and information that Miss Smandych spoke on about her missionary experience in East Timor (in Pacific between Australia and Indonesia). Susan's sharing about her work with Foster Parents Plan gave more understanding in regards to outreach in other countries.

Saltcoats Library Summer Reading Program have finished the Jungle destination visits with bugs, birds, trees, elephants turtles and big cats. Just fewer than twenty kiddies registered and the focus was reading books. More than a few of the entrants read over fifty books in the six week project. The wind up party on August 18 had snacks and prizes but observers stated that many of the children still had their head in a book trying to read just a few more!

Saltcoats United church will have no service in Saltcoats on August 29 but there will be a joint service in Bredenbury at 10:00 a.m. The regular worship time for September 5 is 11:30 a,m. Church office (722-2952) is open Monday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Wednesday office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Saltcoats United church choir practice begins for the season on Wednesday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m.

The local museum has reorganized the past few months. The town of Saltcoats shared a summer student. Katherine Gosselin has proved that the daily, consistent hours of work is needed to keep the museum up to date beyond dusting and being a tour guide. Museum memberships, which include entry fee and a vote at a meeting, are available at the town office. Katherine completes her last week of work ending August 27 so call her at the town office for a museum viewing.

Sunday, August 29 will have no service at St Augustine's Anglican church in Saltcoats. The one service for the whole Pelly Deanery will be at 11:00 a.m. in Esterhazy with a guest Speaker from the Bible Society. A cold pot blessing lunch will follow.

New Sumner Anglican church parish is hosting Chris Yap of West Malaysia. She is being billeted in Saltcoats for part of her stay so her face will become familiar around the community. Chris has been in Victoria, BC and area since May. Her mission is to share her walk with Jesus. Chris is a soft spoken, 50 plus lady who has healing to tell about that is best done in small groups or one on one. Don't be afraid to call 744-2216 or 744-2581 to set up a chat with Chris.
