Following numerous floods and evacuations, Red Cross continues to work with those who are beginning to restore a sense of normalcy to their lives and clean-up the mess floods left behind.
More than 1100 flood-affected persons have already received assistance from Red Cross. More than 900 hours of time has been provided by 55 Red Cross volunteers in assisting flood-affected individuals and families who are rebuilding their lives. The need will continue for months to come.
Within the next two weeks, Red Cross will provide over 500 clean up kits and flood recovery information to individuals and families who have been affected by floods. Each flood clean up kit includes items such as a bucket, rubber gloves, a broom, garbage bags and detergents to help families clean their flood damaged homes. This distribution of information and kits will take place at public information and recovery centres in at least seven Saskatchewan communities.
To date, Red Cross has registered more than 1100 individuals, and provided more than 600 flood clean-up kits Flood recovery information has already been distributed at six provincial information and recovery centres in six communities. Since March, five families who were affected by flooding have also received food, shelter and clothing from Red Cross. Red Cross has also supported governments in assisting flood affected communities.
Red Cross will continue to support families as they recover during the weeks and months ahead.
Assistance provided by Red Cross is done so free-of-charge and is co-ordinated with governments, insurance and other organizations to ensure there is no duplication of assistance. The assistance provided may include: household repair and clean-up materials so families can move back into their homes; cribs, car seats, and high chairs; occupational support; replacement of lost freezer foods; and assistance in replacing essential prescription medications.
