Dr. Brass school held a vigil Dec. 7, to recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. The day is actually observed Dec. 6, which marks the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre during which 14 women were gunned down by a mentally disturbed man at the école polytechnique. At last week’s local event, dignitaries were piped in by a bagpiper; speakers included Kathleen Gibson on behalf of MP Cathay Wagantall and Mayor Bob Maloney; and members of Kids Matter, a program of the Saskatchewan network Stops to Violence, put on a bullying awareness play.
