Rock CD is a classic

This week I had the pleasure of listening to the classic rock band Mushy Callahan. The band consists of four brothers who originally called Alberta home, but now live in Toronto. Their album "Makings of a Man" is a good one. What I liked about the band and this album is the lead singer's voice. His voice worked on all the songs and the brothers do a good job on the harmonizing throughout the album. There wasn't much I didn't like about the album it worked well on all levels, but like I said the vocals are what set it apart from other albums.

There are only eight songs on the album and they are good, but a few stood out more than the others. 'Amsterdam' is one of those songs; it's the best of the bunch. I really liked the song a lot which is impressive because the lyrics are somewhat repetitive and I usually hate those kind songs, repeating the same lyrics over and over is lazy song writing. However I give credit to 'Amsterdam' the song works with the lyrics it has and it's awesome.

I have to admit I really wanted to like the band Mushy Callahan the minute I heard the band's name. It is a great name, and thankfully their music didn't disappoint. This was an awesome album that has found a home on my IPod, and will probably get regular playing time when I am in the classic rock mood. Check them out at http://mushycallahan.com/home/

"Bovertones"

Tim Bovaconti has toured with the likes of Burton Cummings and Ron Sexsmith. He has previously released two solo albums before releasing his third album "Bovertones". With knowing what kind of background Tim Bovaconti had I was expecting a decent album. Unfortunately this album did not deliver, on any of the expectations I had.

The lyrics on the album did not do much for me. None of the song lyrics were memorable at all. The songs themselves were easily forgotten after listening to the album. The vocals didn't cut it, for me they left a lot to be desired. The vocals did not make any of the songs better, I just couldn't get past that I didn't like them and or the songs that were being sung.

"Bovertones" is an album that I will soon forget over time, once I find new and better albums. There wasn't much on the album that would make me want to listen to it again. The album doesn't even get a pass from me because it isn't a genre I like; I get what the album is trying to do. It would best describe as alternative. Either way it is not something I would recommend.
