Yorkton-Melville MP Garry Breitkreuz was in Las Vegas last week to receive what his constituency office is describing as "the biggest award of his career."
On February 7, at its annual convention, Safari Club International (SCI) presented Breitkreuz with its International Legislator of the Year Award for his efforts in dismantling Canada's long-gun registry.
"I felt extremely honoured," he said. "I was just blown away by the size of the event. I didn't even know how big a deal it was until I got there."
"As an organization representing hunters from around the world it is critical that Safari Club International recognize lawmakers who protect the hunters and hunting opportunities around the world," said Phil DeLone, SCI chief executive officer.
"For more than a decade Garry Breitkreuz has shown an unwavering commitment to protecting both gun ownership and the freedoms of all sportsmen and women, setting a high standard for others to follow."
Safari Club is an organization of hunters founded in Tucson, Arizona in 1972. It now boasts more than 50,000 members and 190 local chapters in 25 countries. Its convention and Ultimate Hunters' Market draw upward of 20,000 attendees each year.
