Saltcoats Beautification Committee notes that spring refurbishing and planting of trees and flower beds has begun. The committee plans to redo the flower bed at the North end of High Street (by the wagon) - The Immigration Hall Garden.
The wood boxes have rotted so replacing them with an interlocking stone/brick planter is needed. Signs will be installed describing the history of the site. The Immigration Hall was the disembarking site of settlers when Saltcoats was the end of the train line and for several years thereafter. There is always need for a feature tree, decorative cement table and bench or history plaque, so if anyone or a group wants to donate one of these items in memoriam, or to celebrate a special family event. The committee would be most receptive.
Contact the Town of Saltcoats Office 306-744-2212 or Wendy Hume 306-744-8118; persons willing to help the committee by taking on a small planting or watering, caring for project or by being on a "call when you need help list" the committee is most appreciative.
