October 15-21, 2017 is Education Week in Saskatchewan, a time to celebrate student success and recognize our dedicated education professionals across the province. This year’s theme: Building our Future by Learning Together, highlights the role of education in building our future both as individuals and as a province. It also emphasizes importance of a collaborative and inclusive approach to learning. As part of local activities during the week a Book Fair was held at Yorkdale Central School Monday. Here Georgia Nelson and Antony Huang look at what good reads were available.

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 15-21, 2017 as Education Week. This year’s theme, Building our Future by Learning Together, highlights the important role education plays in our province and the formative role of teachers.

“During Education Week, we should all thank a favourite teacher,” Education Minister Bronwyn Eyre said. “For me, it was Madame Steup, Grades 4 and 5, who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and warm. In high school, Mr. Barber, Mr. Park, Mr. Jacoby, Mr. Black, Ms. Kiss, Ms. Rogers, and Ms. Svoboda challenged perspectives, went beyond the call, and made their subjects come alive. Thank you.”

For the past 30 years, Education Week has also celebrated the achievements of students.

“Education Week reminds us of the importance of putting students first and ensuring they’re provided with the resources, programs, and facilities they need to succeed,” Eyre said.

To celebrate the week, schools and school divisions will be hosting a variety of activities and events that showcase student success stories across our province and highlight the hard work of teachers, staff and volunteers in all Saskatchewan schools.
