Goods stamped "Made in Saskatchewan" are in demand among Canadian merchandise, according to Statistics Canada's figures released today for August 2014.

Saskatchewan leads the provinces in year-over-year growth in exports value.

Saskatchewan posted a 31.6 per cent increase in the value of its exports last August over August 2013, a jump from $2.37 billion to $3.12 billion - good enough for top spot among the provinces.

"We have what the world needs, and the Saskatchewan brand is increasingly known and respected in markets around the world," Minister responsible for Trade Minister Jeremy Harrison said.

"Our economy is helping to set the pace for growth in Canada and is helping sustain a virtuous cycle of continued investment, activity and benefits for Saskatchewan people."

Star commodities in August's year-over-year statistics included farm, fishing and food products, increasing 61.1 per cent to $988 million; consumer goods, up 57.9 per cent to $192 million; and energy products, up 28 per cent to $1.3 billion.

The value of Saskatchewan's exported goods for the first eight months of 2014 was approximately $23.8 billion, an increase of 10.4 per cent over the same period in 2013.

"This kind of robust performance and strong growth reflects well on the state of our overall provincial economy," Harrison said.

"It also sends an encouraging message about the opportunities in this province for the people and businesses who call it home."
