The Good Spirit School Division has a new chairperson.
At its annual organizational meeting November 6 the Board of Education elected Lois Smandych who represents Subdivision 5, Bredenbury/Churchbridge/Langenburg to lead for the 2014/2015 school year. Smandych has been involved in with school boards including Yorkdale rural, Yorkton Regional High School, York, and Good Spirit School Divisions for many years.
Smandych was previously vice-chair. That role now goes to D.J. Cairns, the trustee for Subdivision 7, Esterhazy/Stockholm. Cairns was first elected the Good Spirit School Division Board in the fall of 2009.
"Special thanks to Bryan Cottenie, our outgoing board chair, who has fulfilled the roles of vice-chair and chair since the creation of Good Spirit SD," the board said in a press release. "He will continue to play a key role at the board table through sharing his wealth of knowledge and expertise."
Cottenie has served on the board since amalgamation in 2006. He has fulfilled numerous roles during that time including chair and vice-chair.
