School lost to fire

Phone Hill School, an historic building and familiar landmark along Highway 52 between Yorkton and Willowbrook, burned to the ground last week. Springside Fire Department responded to a fire at the old schoolhouse during the early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 29. Yorkton Fire Protective Services was called in for support. Neither department has made any comment about the cause of the fire. Phone Hill School was built in 1906 and held classes until 1969. In recent years, it was privately owned and used for equipment storage. Below: Phone Hill School as it stood before the fire.
