As we celebrate this special time of year, it is my pleasure to extend greetings to you on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada.
For me, this is a season of thanksgiving, and one of the things I'm most grateful for are the generous and caring people of Saskatchewan. Our provincial motto - From Many People's Strength - was well chosen. Our diverse population is our greatest strength. Saskatchewan is a rich tapestry, woven from the threads of people from many cultures. We have enjoyed strong immigration in recent years, and to all who are new to our country and our province, I warmly welcome you - we are so pleased you are here.
Our province is renowned for our volunteers, who give freely of their time and energy to improve our communities. I am grateful to all of our committed and capable volunteers. Thank you for donating your time to worthy causes in Saskatchewan.
The Holiday Season can be a very difficult time for those who have lost loved ones in the past year. My heart goes out to you. It can also be a hard time for our military families, who may be separated because of deployment.
This year I launched the Lieutenant Governor's Military Service Pin. I hope to present a pin to every Saskatchewan person who has served in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as members of Police Forces who have served in military operations. The pin honours those who have served our country, and will identify them, so that we can thank them for their sacrifices. As we celebrate the season, let's not forget that at this very moment, Canadians are risking their lives around the world.
Saskatchewan is home to people of many faith traditions, who celebrate in different ways, but for most of us, this is a time of sharing with family and friends. I wish you and your family much happiness and good health, today, and throughout the coming year. Merry Christmas!
Honourable
Vaughn Scholfield
Lieutenant
Governor of Saskatchewan
