Police are seeking the public's help in locating a 48-year-old alleged sex offender.
On May 11, 2014, Wadena RCMP received a complaint from a health care worker of a female youth (under the age of 16) who was the victim of a sexual assault. After conducting an investigation, police charged Vincent Alex Desjarlais of Kylemore, Saskatchewan with the following offences: two counts of sexual assault, sexual interference of a person under the age of 16, procuring a miscarriage and assault.
Investigators have been unable to locate Desjarlais and believe that he is actively attempting to evade police in Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan. He has connections in the Long Plain First Nation in Manitoba and Punnichy, Yellow Quill First Nation, Saskatoon and Regina in Saskatchewan. However, he could be anywhere in either Manitoba or Saskatchewan. There is a warrant for his arrest.
Desjarlais is described as a 48-year-old, aboriginal male with black hair (may have a pony tail) and brown eyes. He is 5 foot, 10 inches, 176 pounds, with a medium build. He has several tattoos: right outer arm, circle with feathers extending down; left arm, eagle head and flower with red centre; left forearm, daggers into a circle; right forearm, various images including a heart and the text "F*** You"; neck, small red star with black outline; right shoulder, First Nations male with long hair, an eagle and feathers.
"It is not typical practice for the RCMP to issue media releases relating to sexual assault, especially when the incident involves a youth," a press release stated. "However, efforts to locate Vincent Desjarlais have not been successful and we are asking the public and the media for their assistance in locating Vincent Desjarlais. Additionally, we anticipate when this incident is before the courts there will be significant restrictions in place relating to what can be published and reported on."
