A Yorkton man has been sentenced in a 2017 home invasion. Cole Cadotte, one of three men charged, was the only one to plead guilty in the case.
On Dec. 2, the RCMP were called to the Carousel Apartments in Yorkton. Upon their arrival they found two intoxicated males within the apartment, one of whom was Cadotte, as well as one outside.
Cadotte claimed he was so intoxicated at the time that he did not know what they actually did at the apartment. The victim said that the people who broke into his apartment struck him repeatedly and demanded his wallet and drugs.
Cadotte’s co-accused, Adam Cote and Roland Bryant, have both plead not guilty and are awaiting trial.
After release, Cadotte was later arrested on Dec. 9 after stealing a bottle of vodka from the Woodlander Hotel. When confronted, Cadotte smashed the bottle on the pavement. He was also charged on Jan. 23 when he failed to appear on charges related to this incident.
He was in trouble again on Feb. 28 when he was found trying to enter vehicles on 7th Ave. He was found to be very intoxicated at the time.
Cadotte had no previous criminal record and also plead guilty rather than proceed with the preliminary hearing. The result was a sentence described in court as fairly lenient.
The guilty plea lead to a sentence of one year, minus nine days for time served. The other charges lead to a sentence of time served, which was a total of 35 days. Cadotte also received one year probation after release.
