Sunrise Health Region has received notification that effective Monday, April 18, 2011 there will be insufficient physician coverage for emergency on-call and inpatient services at the Kamsack Hospital.

This will create a temporary service interruption but the facility will remain open.

The situation is expected to stabilize with the anticipated arrival of two additional physicians, who have committed to practice in Kamsack starting in September, 2011.

There will be no hospital emergency room services or acute inpatient services. Dr. Davies and Dr. Rezansoff will continue their clinic practices in Kamsack. X-ray, lab and physiotherapy services will continue for outpatient services. Long-term care services will also continue.

The health region continues to consult physicians, health facility managers, union locals and staff members to coordinate alternate service arrangements during this temporary service interruption. The health region also continues to work diligently to secure locum coverage, however at this time locum coverage is not available. Intensive efforts will continue in this regard.

Patients experiencing an emergency should contact 911 to reach an ambulance. For any day-to-day medical requirements, continue to consult your family physician. To receive nursing advice, contact Healthline at 1-877-800-0002.

Sunrise Health Region will provide frequent information updates to the public throughout this time.

Residents are encouraged to call the Sunrise Health Region Information Line for regular updates at 1-866-800-5510.
