The RCMP has arrested a fugitive who has eluded them for almost a year.

Vincent Alex Desjarlais, 49, was taken into custody May 10 outside a residence on the Fishing Lake First Nation.

Desjarlais was originally charged June 12, 2014 following a complaint May 11, 2014 from a health care worker that a youth under the age of 16 had been sexually assaulted.

An investigation resulted in charges of two counts sexual assault and one count each of sexual touching of a person under 16, attempting to procure a miscarriage, common assault and incest.

Attempts to track Desjarlais down were unsuccessful, so police took the unusual step in December of issuing a press release in a case of sex assault involving a minor in order to obtain the assistance of the public.

The suspect appeared  in Yorkton Provincial Court May 12 without representation and requested his case be transferred back to Wadena.

Judge Patrick Koskie remanded Desjairlais by consent until his next appearance in Wadena Court May 21.
