Shelterbox fundraiser is May 12-14

Members of Yorkton's Rotary Club will be raising pledges in support of Shelterbox Canada at a fundraiser this month.

About 10 Rotarians sponsored by friends, family, and corporate donors will spend the nights of May 12 and 13 in two Shelterbox tents in Yorkton's Western Financial City Centre Park. A public pancake breakfast will follow on the morning of Saturday, May 14.

Proceeds from the Shelterbox Sleepover will be sent to Shelterbox Canada, a nonprofit corporation that provides aid boxes containing shelter and survival gear to people struck by disasters anywhere in the world. The organization has recently delivered boxes to Haiti, Pakistan, and Japan.

"Shelterbox is a charity that we at the Rotary Club of Yorkton have supported for a number of years," says Yorkton Rotary Club President Terry Tyson. "This is the first time we've taken a more public route at trying to do that."

Tyson says that people interested in pledging money can call him at 621-1385 or attend the pancake breakfast that will follow the sleepover on Saturday, May 14.
