Skateboard park design finalized

The final design of the new Yorkton Skateboard, Bike and Walking Park has been approved by the local design committee and accepted by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday.

The final design of the new Yorkton Skateboard, Bike and Walking Park has been approved by the local design committee and accepted by Yorkton Council at its regular meeting Monday.

Committee representative Brennan Weins told Council they had two meetings with Newline Skateparks to finalize the design.

"We're really excited about it," he said.

Weins said through the two meetings the design was fine-tuned to incorporate a stage-like area to broaden the potential use of the site, and a Y-razorback feature which adds a local flavour.

Darcy McLeod, Director of Community Development, Parks & Recreation, said his department "has been actively involved in this project to ensure co-ordination of related services since the skatepark is part of the larger Brodie Re-development project."

The project is on budget, said McLeod, adding Newline plans to begin work on site in the last part of May, weather permitting.
