Social Work Week set in Yorkton

The week of March 17-23 has been proclaimed Social Work Week in the city be the unanimous consent of Yorkton Council. Tom Seeley made the request of Council on behalf of the Yellowhead Each Branch of the provincial organization.

Tom Seeley made the request of Council on behalf of the Yellowhead Each Branch of the provincial organization."Across Canada the week of March 17-23, 2013 is celebrated as Social Work Week," he said.

Seeley said the theme for this year's week is "Defending Social Programs for a Stronger Canada."

In explaining the importance of the week Seeley said, "Perhaps one of the best ways to describe a social worker is to quote the values embraced by social workers as identified in our Code of Ethics adopted in 2005. These values are as follows:

Respect for Inherent Dignity and Worth of Persons

Pursuit of Social Justice

Service to Humanity

Integrity of Professional Practice

Confidentiality in Professional Practice

Competence in Professional Practice

Provincially the association represents 1300 members with the Yellowhead branch having more than 60.
