Sunrise Health Region and the physician recruitment committee in Kamsack are pleased to announce progress made to re-establish inpatient services in Kamsack.
Plans are underway to restore inpatient services within the next two weeks with the assistance of Dr. Davies and Dr. Rezansoff, once staffing is re-established. A temporary locum, Dr. Jackie Bucko, was recruited to assist in Kamsack starting in early July.
Dr. Jodi Bibby and Dr. Alistair Dudley have successfully completed the first phase of the 18 week assessment required for foreign trained doctors to achieve licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan. Work permits have been obtained for the two doctors committed to setting up practice in Kamsack in September.
Emergency services will not be reinstated until the full physician compliment arrives in September. When an emergency arises Kamsack area residents should call 911 for an ambulance or proceed to Canora or Yorkton where arrangements are in place to treat people from Kamsack area. The health region will advise the community when emergency services are restored.
The health region is working on long-term strategies to stabilize services in Kamsack including the posting of a full-time Nurse Practitioner to improve public access to primary care services. The health region will also continue to connect physicians interested in setting up practice in the area with the Kamsack Physician Recruitment Committee.
Sunrise Health Region wishes to thank and acknowledge Drs. Roelens, Newstead, and Van Der Merwe in Canora and Drs. Davies and Rezansoff in Kamsack and the staffs of Canora Hospital and Kamsack & District Hospital and Nursing Home for their continued dedication to providing safe, quality patient care.
