The Yorkton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion appears to have found a new home.
At the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday a development permit application for a Community Facility use at 387-B Parkview Road was considered.
The applicant is a non-profit organization (Legion) and the currently vacant location is zoned C-4 Neighbourhood Commercial.
“The proposed Community Facility is listed as a Discretionary Use in the C-4 Neighbourhood Commercial zone and, subject to public notification requirements, Council approval is needed in order for Administration to issue a Development Permit through the Discretionary Use Application Process,” detailed a report circulated to Council.
The Zoning Bylaw defines Community Facility as: A building which is available to the public for the purpose of assembly, instruction, culture or community activity and includes: auditoriums, churches, libraries, museums and art galleries, other similar uses at the discretion of the Development Officer.
“This application been reviewed in context with the Official Community Plan (OCP), Zoning Bylaw, the Planning and Development Act, 2007 and evaluated concerning the suitability of land for the intended use,” explained Carleen Koroluk, Planner with the City.
“The applicant intends to use the location as an office and meeting area and a place to host special events for members and invited guests. The organization recently sold its previous location and relocating to this facility will allow them to continue its commitments and support to members, families and the community. The unit is located in an existing strip mall which has adequate on-site parking and the proposed use satisfies the Zoning Bylaw definition of a Community Facility,” detailed the report.
Council was unanimous in supporting the discretionary use request.
