The City of Yorkton took another step toward collecting tax arrears from 2013 and prior at the regular meeting of City Council Monday.
Forty properties remain on the arrears list, down from 132 earlier this year when property owners received a letter in September indicating payment was required of tax liens could be put on the properties.
Ninety-two property owners paid their 2013 and prior taxes owing in full following the issuance of the letters, explained Shannon Bell, Director of Finance with the City.
Council unanimously authorized the advertisement of Lands in Arrears with the exception of those properties of which the amount of taxes in arrears does not exceed one half of the immediately preceding year's tax levy.
Arrears to be advertised amount to $213,395, from a total tax roll og $17.7 million.
The City will now advertise the legal land description, civic address and arrears owing in the local newspaper. If arrears are not paid by January 12, 2015, a tax lien will be registered on the property.
