Another "Star" will light up the prairie sky as the Yorkton Arts Council proudly presents the next concert in the 40th Anniversary "Stars For Saskatchewan" concert series: Angele Dubeau and La Pieta, Tuesday, October 14 at 7:30 PM in the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Yorkton Regional High School.

"A Time For Us" gathers Angele Dubeau's favorite pieces from some of the most unforgettable movies, performed with her ensemble, La Pieta. The audience will be able to enjoy new arrangements for strings and piano of pieces from Romeo and Juliet, Memoirs of a Geisha, Cinema Paradiso and many more.

We caught up with Angele Dubeau, and asked her what inspires her as she performs each concert. "My inspiration comes from the works I have chosen to perform. The choice of works for me is always a choice from the heart. It is music that I want to share with the public. The spark necessary to go on stage comes from the presence of the public. As a musician, the public is my "raison-d'être". I choose the musicians that surround me on stage for their great musical but also human qualities, and that's also very inspiring." Angele explains.

With such an interesting and varied program, one wonders if certain pieces of music speak to the musicians in a special way, expanding the original notes of music into something more personal. Angele describes it this way: "As a performer, it is very rare to have a direct line with the composer. It is therefore my own musical knowledge, my emotions and my interpretation that create the way I play the piece. It may differ a little bit from the composer's original writing, but that's precisely the beauty of music. You can take the same concerto and ask 5 violinists to play it and, each time, you will get a different result. My experience and my many years as a musician give me all the confidence to create my own interpretations in all liberty. Naturally, all of this is done in the particular framework that the composer has given to the work. But as a performer, that still gives me ample latitude to work with."

Angele Dubeau and La Pieta have toured the world, bringing beautiful music to enthralled audiences everywhere. What is their favorite part of touring? "Being on stage of course! Certainly not all the wait in airports and the long commutes! The contact with the public is fantastic. To play in over 40 countries makes you discover new publics and establish a relationship with them. When I leave on tour, I unfortunately don't have time to visit all of the touristic landmarks of a place, but in exchange, I get to have a direct contact with the people of the city, and that for me is the best way to learn all there is to learn about a country or a city." said Angele.

Because of their obvious enjoyment of meeting people on their travels, and the impassioned appreciation and expression of their music, we wondered what they hope the audience will take away from one of their concerts. Angele elaborates. "I hope they cherish this moment as one that brought them happiness. An inspiring moment perhaps, or even a calming or mesmerizing one. Ultimately, I want them to leave knowing that they want to come back for another show!"
