There is currently a need for a host family in Yorkton to take in a young student from Japan.
Scott Baird with Youth Ed Services Canada, said their organization arranges educational exchange opportunities abroad for Canadian students, as well as for foreign students coming to Canada.
"A Japanese student has been placed for the Yorkton area, and will attend Yorkton Regional High School," he said.
However, there is a need for a host family and home for the 15-year-old male student who will be spending 10-months in Canada.
Baird said the student will have a basic understanding of English, but added "part of the program is learning English while they're here, or improving their English."
Baird said they are looking for a host family who are interested in making the exchange student "part of their family." He added with that they hope the host family will show the student around the area "and really let them know about Canadian culture." At the same time the host family with learn about Japanese culture from the student.
The program does pay $350 per month to defray food costs for the youth.
The Japanese student is scheduled to arrive in Yorkton Aug. 30, so there is an immediate need for a host home.
