The Saskatchewan Public Service Commission is accepting applications for summer student employment in the public service.

The Saskatchewan Public Service Commission is accepting applications for summer student employment in the public service.

There are a variety of jobs available throughout the province in research, geology, administration, park and highway maintenance and social services. Last summer, the public service employed more than 650 students.

"Students told us they enjoyed their employment experience," Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission June Draude said. "It gives them an opportunity to be mentored, and to enhance their marketability for future employment."

"It's rewarding to know that we can help put money into students' pockets," Draude said. "At the same time, having students in the workplace provides new and fresh perspectives to the work we do for the public."

The majority of student hiring takes place in late March and throughout April for positions that run from May to the end of August. There are also opportunities available throughout the year, including co-op work terms, student jobs and internships.

Students are encouraged to apply online through the Career Centre at www.careers.gov.sk.ca/studentjobs. Applications are matched to job competitions based on students' qualifications, as well as their choices of location and availability.

Co-op student Amy Deibert is the PSC's Student Referrals Administrator for the summer. A full-time business administration student at the University of Regina, Amy is responsible for assisting managers to find students.
