Sunrise earns award

Sunrise Health Region was recently recognized for efforts to make health care better for Saskatchewan patients.

Sunrise Health Region was recently recognized for efforts to make health care better for Saskatchewan patients. The Pursuing Excellence Awards were presented at a special ceremony held as part of the third annual Inspire Health Care Quality Summit, hosted by Saskatchewan's Health Quality Council (HQC). Sunrise received two of the ten awards available.

The Chemotherapy Improvement Team received an award in the "Better Care" category for improvements to the Sunrise Health Region oncology outreach centre in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. An increased demand for chemotherapy treatments in Yorkton led the team to take a patient-centred approach to improving all of the processes involved in providing this service. In doing so, they have removed unnecessary steps, reduced paperwork, improved communication between health care professionals, and saved time by streamlining the delivery of chemotherapy products. All of these improvements contribute to better care for patients.

Follow-me computing was acknowledged as an innovative regional Information technology initiative and received a "Better Value" award. This initiative by the Sunrise Health Region information technology and information management teams enables healthcare providers to move from computer to computer while maintaining secure access to patient information. The system uses "smart cards" with embedded computer chips and "follow-me" computing. This project was in conjunction with the electronic patient tracking system in the Emergency Department at Yorkton Regional Health Centre and improves availability of information for patient care while ensuring security of information.

"I am very proud of the recognition that our region has received in this year's Pursuing Excellence Awards," said Suann Laurent, President and CEO. "To have our innovative programs and individuals being acknowledged by our peers is truly a nod to our commitment to ongoing client centred care."
