The Sunrise Health Region Board approved more than $3 million in capital expenditures for the year ending March 31, 2016.

However, Lorelei Stusek, VP of Corporate Services with the region said when the initial process began managers across the region submitted requests for more than $14 million in projects.

“It’s been a real struggle to put this all together with limited dollars,” she told the regular meeting of the board last week, adding it is a discussion they have had with the health ministry.

In terms of capital dollars, funds come from a variety of sources.

The largest source sees $768,000 provided by the Ministry to address the Life Safety/Emergency & Infrastructure projects.

In addition, $349,775 is required to fund projects/equipment that can be appropriately funded by CMHC Reserves. Facilities requiring funding from this source currently have ample funds held in Reserves for the required purchases.

There is also Ministry-funded capital equipment, explained Stusek. $400,000 for the purchase of this equipment has been committed by the Ministry for the fiscal year. Items to be purchased from this fund are as per Ministry of Health guidelines.

Other funds come via the Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan. Projects and equipment costs of $847,609 will only proceed with a funding commitment for each individual item by the Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan.

Donations play a role in the budgets too. For the current budget year $205,090 of capital items have been requested to be funded by local facility donation funds.

And $600,000 will come via provincial diagnostic funding for equipment replacement at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. The money will be spent in the medical imaging department on a new CT machine.

The Board also approved the 2014-15 Reallocation of Funds of $265,751 to be allocated among new Capital expenditures.

The largest single expenditure after the CT machine will be $250,000 for a new roof at the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre.
