Bailey’s Funeral Home and Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer recently donated $29,000 to furnish two palliative care rooms

“We are very grateful to Allan, Ray and Crystal Bailey and to Greg and Leone Ottenbreit for caring, and for their generosity so that these two palliative care rooms could happen,” said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation.

“End of life is a very difficult time,” said Ray Bailey, not just for the person whose life is coming to an end, but also for their family and friends. In our work we have so much interaction with families who have a loved one that needs palliative care and the supports it provides. We know this service is needed and we feel it is important that palliative patients should be able to spend time with their loved ones in as comfortable an environment as possible,” continued Mr. Bailey.

“We know all too clearly from personal experience how important a proper palliative care setting can be to family and patients,” said Leone Ottenbreit. “We set up the local initiatives component of the Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer, just so people could designate funds that would stay in the community and be used to assist people and families dealing with cancer and end of life issues.”

“We are very grateful for the businesses that put on events and raise funds. We are very grateful for the people who participate in Close Cuts and to the people that raise money and put on events that allow people to participate and to help others in need.

“Thoughtful donations by Baileys Funeral Home and Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer have transformed these palliative care rooms into beautiful and special spaces designed for comfort,” says Roberta Wiwcharuk, Vice President of Integrated Health Services for Sunrise Health Region.  “The Yorkton and District Nursing Home managers and staff had a vision to help clients and their families through this most important stage of life, and generous donors contributing to the Health Foundation have turned that vision into reality. Thank you.”

Among the items purchased to beautify the rooms and to contribute to the safety and comfort of the clients were specialty comfort mattresses, vital signs monitors, oxygen concentrators, recliners and decor items.
