Since 1971, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has worked with community volunteers to help people complete their income tax and benefit returns through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).

CRA offers free training sessions to volunteer community organizations and individuals across the country to teach them how to complete basic income tax and benefit returns for others. We are looking for volunteers to provide this important community service to individuals who have low incomes and simple tax situations.

A basic understanding of how to complete a tax return and experience using a computer is beneficial. As a volunteer you must also be willing to be linked to a community organization. We are currently seeking volunteers in numerous communities and are especially in need of organizations willing to assume a leadership role. Becoming a volunteer is easy and rewarding. As a volunteer, you will meet other people like you, who want to lend a hand at tax time.

The Regina Tax Services Office is offering free training sessions in Regina beginning February 4, 2011. We are also planning training sessions in Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, Ochapowace First Nation and the Touchwood Agency Tribal offices in Fort Qu'Appelle and Punnichy.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please visit our website at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/volunteer/ or call Joanne Phillips at 1-888-780-7908.
