The Terry Fox Run has been an annual event in Yorkton for the past 34-years.
But, there are concerns a 35th may not go forward this September.
“We’re having a little trouble. The run coordinator stepped down,” explained Allison Doan, community and schools coordinator with the Terry Fox Foundation (Saskatchewan). “We’re having some difficulty finding anyone to take over the run.”
Doan said Yorkton has always been a good supporter of the run, it has raised $185,957 through the years, so they are certainly hopeful someone will step forward to coordinate the 2017 event.
The coordinator role is not a year-round position, but instead focuses on “a few months before the run,” said Doan.
This year the event is scheduled for Sept. 17, and Doan said the local coordinator will need to help facilitate a run location, do some pre-event promotion, and basically help get the community involved.
While the role has fell to an individual in Yorkton in the past, Doan said the work can be shared, meaning co-cordinators, or even an organizing committee can facilitate the run. Doan added she, and the provincial office are also available to help a new coordinator.
“We supply posters and signage,” she said, adding she is more than willing to come to Yorkton to help a new person settle into the lead role locally.
