In 1981, the festival changed its name to the Yorkton International Short Film and Video Festival.


In 1981, the festival changed its name to the Yorkton International Short Film and Video Festival. The name change reflected the move from films of varying lengths to those of less than 60 minutes and the introduction of video, the new technology of the day.
