We invite folks to visit Millstone Park, a commemoration site of Yorkton's original settlement. It is 4 kilometers north of Yorkton on No. 9 Highway. There are two large cairns, one which tells the story of the colony established in 1882 on the banks of the Little White Sand River, and one dedicated to the history of the YORKTON HOME GUARD during the 1885 Riel Uprising. The York Farmers Colonization Company of Toronto were in charge of the settlement for a period of 5 years. Director, James Armstrong, hired John F. Reid of the Orkney settlement to oversee the construction of the Company's flour mill on the banks of the river. The gristmill stone from this flourmill is featured on a concrete base.
