Residents of Yorkton have become familiar with 100.5 The Rock since it took to the airwaves on January 2, 2006. On July 14, The Rock received CRTC approval to increase their transmitter power from 50 watts to 50,000 Watts.
That means that many more communities outside of Yorkton will have the opportunity to listen to this unique brand of Christian music and information. As well, the station has some rather unique news and information segments geared to "Make a Difference" in lives of residents in Eastern Saskatchewan and Western Manitoba.
Dennis Dyck, station general manager, says, "We have always wanted to spread the good news of what The Rock is all about, now the time has come. What a great way to start 2012, being able to reach tens of thousands of rural residents."
As a result of the change in power, 100.5 The Rock will become The Rock 98.5 FM on Wednesday, January 4. The plan is to launch the new frequency during a 'Reset Your Preset Party' planned for Noon to 3:00 p.m. at The ROCK studios, 395 Riverview Road.
98.5 FM Program Director Scott Fitzsimmons says, "we are adding some exciting new features to our daily programming. Among the most notable changes will be the addition of agriculture programming with well-known broadcaster Jack Dawes."
Fitzsimmons adds, "The format of new and exciting Christian music and a blend of inspirational spoken word rounds out our programming."
