The Yorkton municipal RCMP have confirmed they have made arrests following a firearms complaint that instigated the closing down of all Yorkton schools June 4.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., the detachment received a call that an adult male wearing a t-shirt as a bandana and wielding a hand gun was seen at the Yorkton Regional High School annual car show.

The school division initiiated its safety protocol of placing schools into a hold and secure state, which means locking the exterior doors, but allowing normal school activities to continue inside.

Police located a suspect a short time later walking on Darllngton Street near Victoria Avenue and took him into custody. Corporal Donald Dyker would not confirm whether a gun was involved saying the investigation is ongoing. Two other suspects were also arrested at a residence on Third Avenue although no charges have been laid on any of the individuals and the RCMP are not releasing names or saying what they are suspected of doing .

GSSD responded with a press release and a automated voice message to parents at approximately 1:45 p.m. The lockdown was lifted shortly before 3 p.m.
